Since its inception in 2014, the Gen-Eye clinic at Narayana Netralaya has acted as a pivotal liaison between patients, clinicians, and laboratories, leveraging over a decade of clinical and genetic data to advance the understanding of ocular genetic disorders within the Indian ethnicity.
By maintaining an extensive database of family histories and causative variants, the clinic facilitates precise phenotype-genotype correlations—particularly concerning Inherited Retinal Disorders (IRDs), consanguinity, and phenotypic heterogeneity as highlighted in the Gopinath C et al. (2023) report.
This expertise enables the delivery of evidence-based pre- and post-test genetic counselling, empowering families to make informed choices regarding genetic testing and lifestyle adaptations while offering essential emotional, psycho-social, and socio-economic support to bridge the gap between diagnostic research and holistic patient care.
